The views become more spectacular the higher we go and as we trek onto the glacial moraines the huge bulk of Kanchanjunga towers high above. After flying to Biratnagar and drive to Basantapur we start at low altitude walking through the rice field and villages of the Tarai Newar, Rai, Limbu and Chhetri people. Only opened to trekking groups in 1988, the Kanchanjunga region offers the keen walker a unique opportunity to visit an pristine mountain wilderness, passing through seldom visited villages en route and ending with some of the most impressive high mountain scenery on earth.
